Windows 8 Mail Setup

General Setup

  • From the Start screen, click on Mail

 

  • Open the application menu by dragging your mouse to the lower right corner
  • Click Settings
  • Click Accounts

 

  • Click Add an account

 

  • Click Other account in the list provided

 

  • Click the radio button next to IMAP in the list of protocols (Note: The Mail app in Windows 8 does not support POP3 accounts)
  • Click Connect

 

 

  • Enter your email address and password in the field provided
  • Click Show more details to enter the server information

 

  • In the Username field, enter your full email address
  • Set Incoming (IMAP) email server to mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client
  • Uncheck the box next to Incoming server requires SSL
  • Set Outgoing (SMTP) email server to mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client
  • Uncheck the box next to Outgoing server requires SSL
  • Change the Port to 587
  • Click Connect

  • Return to Settings > Accounts
  • Select your newly added account
  • Change Account name (this is optional as it should automatically set your domain for the name)
  • Change Your name from your email address to your name as it would appear on outgoing emails
  • Change the selection for Download email from The last 2 weeks to Any time

 

  • Click the back arrow at the top to save your changes and complete setup
 

Password Entry

  • Open the Mail application
  • Open the program menu by moving your mouse to the lower right corner
  • Select Settings
  • Select Accounts
  • Select your account
Scroll to the Password field and enter your new password

 
  • Click the back arrow to save your changes
 

Outgoing (SMTP) Port Configuration

  • Open the Mail application
  • Open the program menu by moving your mouse to the lower right corner
  • Select Settings
  • Select Accounts
  • Select your account
  • Scroll to the Outgoing email server
  • Change the Port to 587
  • Click the back arrow to save your changes
