Mozilla Thunderbird Setup

General Setup

  • Open Thunderbird.
  • Select Tools -> Account Settings from the menu.
  • Click Account Actions -> Add Mail Account at the bottom.

 

  • Enter your e-mail address, password, and name in the spaces provided.
  • Click Continue.
  • Click Manual Config to bypass server checks.

 

Recommended Settings

  • Under Incoming, select POP from the dropdown menu, enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the Server hostname field, select 110 in the Port field, select STARTTLS in the SSL field, and Encrypted password in the Authentication field.
  • Under Outgoing, enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the Server hostname field, select 587 in the Port field, select STARTTLS in the SSL field, and Encrypted password in the Authentication field.
  • Enter your full email address in the Username field and click Done.

  • In the left menu, click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  • Select the server you had entered in the previous step (mail.idmi.net or email.idmi.net), click Set Default, and click OK.

Alternate Settings

  • Under Incoming, select POP from the dropdown menu, enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the Server hostname field, select 110 in the Port field, select None in the SSL field, and Encrypted password in the Authentication field.
  • Under Outgoing, enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the Server hostname field, select 587 in the Port field, select None in the SSL field, and Encrypted password in the Authentication field.
  • Enter your full email address in the Username field and click Done.

  • Please be aware if you choose to use the alternate settings, you will receive the error screen shown below once you click Done on the server settings screen.
  • If you choose to continue, check the box beside I understand the risks and click Done.

 

  • In the left menu, click Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  • Select the server you had entered in the previous step (mail.idmi.net or email.idmi.net), click Set Default, and click OK.

 

Password Entry

  • Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • Select Tools -> Options from the menu.

 

  • In the window that appears, click the Security tab.
  • Click the Saved Passwords button.

 

  • In the window that appears, click the appropriate line (your account name will be in the Username section), and then click Remove.

 

  • Click Close and then OK.
  • Close and then re-start Mozilla Thunderbird.
  • A window should appear prompting you for your password. Enter it, check the Use Password Manager to remember this password checkbox, and then click OK. (If the window does not appear, then click the Check Mail button.)

 

 

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Port Configuration

  • Open Thunderbird.
  • Select Tools -> Account Settings from the menu.

 

  • Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the left menu.
  • Select the mail.idmi.net or email.idmi.net server, and click Edit

  • Change the number in the Port field from 25 to 587, and click OK

  • Click OK.
