Microsoft Outlook Express Setup

General Setup

  • Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
  • Select Tools -> Accounts from the menu.

 

  • Click the Mail tab.
  • Click the Add button, and then select Mail from the menu that appears.

 

  • Enter your name in the space provided.
  • Click the Next button.

 

  • Enter your e-mail address in the space provided.
  • Click the Next button.

 

  • Leave the My incoming mail server is a drop down menu set to POP3.
  • Enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the space provided for Incoming mail server.
  • Enter mail.idmi.net if using the older mail client, or email.idmi.net if using the newer mail client in the space provided for Outgoing mail server.
  • Click the Next button.

  • In the Account Name field, enter your full e-mail address.
  • Enter your password in the field provided.
  • Make sure Remember Password is checked.
  • Click the Next button.

 

  • Click the Finish button.
  • Click on the mail account you just created and then select Properties.

  • In the menu that appears, click on the Servers tab.
  • Check the box next to My Server Requires Authentication.
  • Click the Settings button.

  • On the menu that appears, make sure that the Use same settings as my incoming mail server option is selected.
  • Click "OK".

 

  • Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  • Change the number in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field from "25" to "587".
  • Click OK and then click Close".
 

Password Entry

  • Open Microsoft Outlook Express.
  • Select Tools -> Accounts from the menu.

 

  • Click the "Mail" tab.
  • Click on the account to be modified, and then click "Properties".

  • Click the "Servers" tab.
  • Highlight and delete the old password (which is masked by dots) in the "Password" field.

 

  • Enter your new password in the "Password" field, making sure that "Remember Password" is checked.
  • Click "OK" to close the current window, and then "Close" to finish.
 

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Port Configuration

  • Open "Microsoft Outlook Express".
  • Select Tools -> Accounts from the menu.

 

  • Select your account from the list that appears and click "Properties".

  • Click the "Advanced" tab.
  • Change the port number in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field to 587.

 

  • Click "OK" and then "Close".
